Clayton is a southeastern suburb of Raleigh, conveniently located near major freeways leading to the Atlantic coast and the rest of the Research Triangle Park area. The Town of Clayton has a rich selection of recreation, arts venues, festivals and events, three golf courses, and the New Clayton River Walk, which connects Johnston County to the Wake County Mountains to the Seas Trail.
People in Clayton and Johnston County have achieved higher education levels than those in the state. The educational attainment statistics for Clayton are dramatic. Each college education level saw an increase and the number of residents holding a bachelor’s degree more than doubled in the decade. Johnston County saw the same increase in educational attainment, but the improvements are more dramatic in the Town. Clayton is served by the Johnston County School System.
